About Us
The Water Insecurity Experiences Community of Practice (WISE-CP), formerly the Household Water Insecurity Research Coordination Network (HWISE-RCN), operates at the strategic intersection of social science discovery, policy, and practice. Our community develops analytics, theoretical advances, research protocols, and standardized assessments to document, benchmark, and understand the causes and consequences of water insecurity throughout the world.

The WISE-CP is rooted in multidisciplinarity and global partnerships. Our objectives are to facilitate a global network of researchers, policy makers, and practitioners that supports scientific discovery and professional development while promoting cutting-edge water insecurity research. We intend for the impact of this work to be increased awareness of the importance of household-level water security in policy and practice.Â
Our history traces back to a 2016 inaugural water insecurity workshop hosted by Wendy Jepson at Texas A&M University. The HWISE-RCN was subsequently formed in 2018 through funding as a Research Coordination Network by the National Science Foundation (2018-2024, PI Wendy Jepson, CoPIs Amber Wutich, Justin Stoler, and Sera Young) with the express goal of promoting water insecurity research using new methods such as the HWISE Scale.Â
